Ingredients To Grab

Cajun Chicken Alfredo Ingredients
  • Pasta- Use your preferred type of pasta. I chose cavatappi because my kids love the fun shape, but feel free to use whichever pasta you have in your pantry.
  • Chicken Breasts- Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and tender, this is the main source of protein for the delicious pasta dish.
  • Minced Garlic- Adds a fragrant earthiness to the homemade Alfredo sauce.
  • Olive Oil- Used to sear the chicken and prevents it from sticking to the pan.
  • Butter- The base of the homemade sauce.
  • Heavy Cream- Creates the creamy texture of the sauce.
  • Chicken Broth- This is the main sauce component and adds a delicious savory element to the dish.
  • Mozzarella Cheese- Melts like a dream and helps thicken the Cajun Alfredo sauce.
  • Parmesan Cheese- Adds an earthy, nutty flavor and is essential to the traditional flavor of Alfredo.
  • Salt and Pepper- Accentuates the flavors of the other ingredients.
  • Cajun Seasoning- The star of the show. It is used to season the chicken breasts before it is seared and sprinkled into the sauce for a flavorful, slightly spicy bite.
  • Italian Seasoning- Provides some freshness and herbaceous flavor to the dish.

How To Make Cajun Chicken Alfredo

Pasta Boiling in a pot of water

Cook The Pasta. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the pasta. Cook it according to the package instructions.

Seasoned Chicken Breasts cooking in a skillet

Season and Sear the Chicken. While the pasta is cooking, pound out the chicken breasts to approximately 1/2” thick. Season them generously with salt, pepper, Cajun spice blend, and Italian seasoning. Add a tablespoon of olive oil to a skillet and cook the chicken for 7-9 minutes, flipping halfway through. Once it reaches an internal temperature of 165F, remove it from the heat and allow it to reset.

Homemade Cajun Alfredo Sauce in a pan

Create the Sauce. Add the butter to the same skillet that you cooked the chicken. It will have small bits of cooked chicken renderings and spices. This helps create more flavor in the sauce. Once the butter is melted, add in the minced garlic. When the garlic is golden brown and toasted, add in the chicken broth and heavy creamy. Slowly stir in the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese a little bit at a time to prevent clumping. Season with additional Italian seasoning and Cajun spice.

Cooked pasta coated with homemade Cajun Alfredo Sauce

Coat the Pasta. When the pasta is done cooking, drain the pasta water. Add the drained pasta to the homemade Cajun Alfredo Sauce.

Storage and Reheating

If you have a look around at my other recipes, you’ll see that I have a TON of other pasta dishes. This is because they reheat so well! If you want to make this ahead of time or double it up so that you have a quick packed lunch for later in the week, you won’t be disappointed.

To save your Cajun Chicken Alfredo leftovers for later, they will stay good to eat for 3-4 days. For the best results, add a splash of milk or water to the pasta before microwaving to keep the pasta from drying out.

If you want to freeze it, portion it out and place it in a freezer-safe container. It will stay safe to eat for 2-3 months. Place it in the refrigerator overnight to allow it to thaw before reheating it.
