What Are Chicken Alfredo Smash Tacos?

Chicken Alfredo Smash Tacos are inspired by the popular viral smash taco trend that has taken social media by storm.

Instead of placing cooked meat inside tortillas, seasoned ground chicken is pressed into one side of a flour tortilla. The tortilla is placed chicken side down onto a hot skillet where the meat cooks and browns while sticking directly to the tortilla.

Once flipped, the cooked chicken is topped with creamy Alfredo sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, grated parmesan cheese, and fresh parsley before being folded in half.

The result is an incredibly crispy taco packed with juicy chicken and creamy Alfredo flavor.

Ingredients To Grab

  • Ground Chicken– Ground chicken creates the flavorful protein base for these smash tacos. It cooks quickly, stays juicy, and presses easily onto each tortilla to create crispy edges.
  • Flour Tortillas– Small flour tortillas hold the chicken while crisping beautifully in the skillet. Their soft texture becomes perfectly golden while remaining flexible enough to fold.
  • Heavy Cream– Makes the Alfredo sauce super creamy and irresistible.
  • Butter– The base of the homemade Alfredo sauce.
  • Minced Garlic- For an earthy and flavorful addition to the sauce.
  • Mozzarella Cheese– Mozzarella melts into a gooey, cheesy layer that pairs perfectly with the Alfredo sauce and chicken.
  • Parmesan Cheese– Fresh grated parmesan adds salty, nutty flavor while enhancing the Alfredo profile.
  • Garlic Powder– Garlic powder seasons the chicken with savory flavor that complements the creamy sauce.
  • Italian Seasoning– Italian seasoning adds herbs like oregano and basil for classic Italian flavor.
  • Paprika– Paprika gives the chicken subtle warmth and beautiful color.
  • Salt– Salt enhances every ingredient and helps bring out the flavors.
  • Black Pepper– Freshly ground black pepper balances the richness of the Alfredo sauce.
  • Olive Oil– A small amount of olive oil helps create beautifully crispy tortillas while preventing sticking.
  • Fresh Parsley– Fresh parsley adds color and brightness that balances the creamy richness.

How To Make Chicken Alfredo Smash Tacos

Homemade Alfredo sauce in a pan with a whisk in it

Prepare the Homemade Alfredo Sauce. In a medium saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Once melted, add 1 Tbsp o f minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown. Slowly pour in 1½ cups of heavy cream, whisking constantly until smooth. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Gradually whisk in 1½ cups of freshly grated Parmesan cheese, adding a little at a time until fully melted. Stir in ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Continue stirring for 3 to 5 minutes until the Alfredo sauce is thick, creamy, and coats the back of a spoon. Remove from the heat and set aside while you prepare the tacos.

Ground chicken in a bowl with seasoning

Season the Chicken. In a medium mixing bowl, combine:

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Mix until the seasonings are evenly distributed throughout the chicken without overworking the meat.

Raw seasoned ground chicken spread over a flour tortilla

Prepare the Tortillas. Lay the flour tortillas flat on your work surface. Divide the seasoned chicken evenly among each tortilla. Using the back of a spoon, your hands, or an offset spatula, spread a very thin layer of chicken over nearly the entire surface of each tortilla, leaving about a ¼-inch border around the edges. Press the chicken firmly onto the tortilla so it adheres well during cooking.

Three chicken smash tacos in a skillet

Cook the Smash Tacos. Heat a large cast iron skillet or nonstick skillet over medium to medium-high heat. Lightly coat the skillet with olive oil or nonstick cooking spray. Place one tortilla chicken side down into the hot skillet. Press gently with a spatula to ensure full contact with the pan. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked and develops a beautifully browned crust. Flip the taco carefully and cook the tortilla side for another 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the remaining tortillas.

Tips And Tricks

Making Chicken Alfredo Smash Tacos is easy, but these simple tips will help you achieve crispy tortillas, juicy chicken, and creamy homemade Alfredo sauce every time.

  • Spread the chicken into a thin, even layer so it cooks quickly and develops crispy edges.
  • Allow the skillet to fully preheat before adding the tacos. A hot pan creates the best golden crust.
  • Press each taco gently with a spatula during the first minute of cooking to help the chicken adhere to the tortilla.
  • Cook the Alfredo sauce over low heat after adding the cheese. High heat can cause the sauce to separate or become grainy.
  • Don’t overload the tacos with sauce. A thin layer allows the crispy tortilla to stay crisp while still delivering rich Alfredo flavor.

Variations

One of the best things about Chicken Alfredo Smash Tacos is how easy they are to customize using your favorite ingredients.

  • Bacon Chicken Alfredo Smash Tacos – Sprinkle crispy chopped bacon over the melted cheese for smoky flavor and extra crunch.
  • Spinach Alfredo Smash Tacos – Add sautéed spinach before folding the tacos for a delicious veggie boost.
  • Mushroom Alfredo Smash Tacos – Top with sautéed mushrooms for an earthy, restaurant-style twist.
  • Spicy Alfredo Smash Tacos – Stir cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes into the Alfredo sauce for a little heat.
  • Air Fryer Finish – After assembling the tacos, air fry them for 2 to 3 minutes at 375 degrees to make the tortillas even crispier.

What To Serve With Chicken Alfredo Smash Tacos

These Chicken Alfredo Smash Tacos are rich, cheesy, and satisfying on their own, but pairing them with the right side dishes turns them into a complete meal. Whether you’re serving them for Taco Tuesday, a family dinner, or game day, these sides complement the creamy Alfredo flavors perfectly.

  • Garlic Parmesan Fries
  • Caesar Salad
  • Roasted Broccoli
  • Garlic Breadsticks

How Long Do They Last?

Chicken Alfredo Smash Tacos are best enjoyed immediately after cooking when the tortillas are perfectly crispy and the cheese is melted.

If you have leftovers, allow them to cool completely before placing them in an airtight container. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

To reheat, warm them in a skillet over medium heat or in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 3 to 5 minutes until heated through and crispy again. Avoid microwaving if possible, as it softens the tortillas.

Can I Use Ground Turkey Instead Of Chicken?

Absolutely! Ground turkey is an excellent substitute and cooks the same way. It creates a slightly leaner version while still pairing beautifully with the creamy Alfredo sauce.

Can I Use Rotisserie Chicken?

Traditional smash tacos require raw ground meat pressed directly onto the tortilla, so rotisserie chicken will not stick the same way. If you’d like to use leftover chicken, chop or shred it and add it after crisping the tortillas instead.

What Kind Of Tortillas Work Best?

Soft street taco size flour tortillas are ideal because they’re sturdy enough to hold the chicken while becoming wonderfully crispy during cooking. Corn tortillas tend to crack and don’t adhere to the chicken as easily.
