Ingredients To Grab

Ingredients needed to make Peach Cobbler with cake mix

There’s no need to buy out the baking aisle at the grocery store when you’re preparing to make this tasty cobbler with canned peaches! Make sure you have these ingredients in your pantry before you get started:

  • Yellow Cake Mix- Grab your favorite brand of boxed cake mix. I use the store brand to keep this an inexpensive treat.
  • Canned Peaches- Canned sliced peaches in juice keep this recipe quick without sacrificing flavor.
  • Butter- Contrary to many other baking dishes, I use salted butter for this dish to avoid adding another ingredient (salt) to the list.
  • Brown Sugar- Compliments the natural sweetness of the canned peaches and helps the top of the cobbler caramelize while baking.
  • Nutmeg- Has a slightly sweet, nutty, and spicy flavor that pairs well with peaches.
  • Cinnamon- Enhances the overall taste, making the cobbler more aromatic and flavorful.
  • Cornstarch– Helps thicken the peach cobbler filling.

Tips And Tricks

Want to make sure your Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix turns out perfectly every time? Read over these tips and tricks before you get started:

  • Spread evenly. Ensure the cake mix is spread evenly over the peaches. It’s easier to pile it a little thicker in the middle than on the edges, but if you do this, it will prevent the cake mix from cooking through in the time listed in the recipe.
  • Chop the peaches. While this step isn’t necessary, it makes it easier to serve and eat. Chopped peaches allow for a better fruit-to-crust ratio.
  • Adjust cooking time. Depending on your oven, the baking time can vary slightly. I’ve found that the sweet spot is somewhere between 45 and 50 minutes. Check the center of the cobbler when you pull it out of the oven. If it still has a little wiggle to it, place it back in the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until it is set.

Variations

It’s hard not to love peach cobbler, but sometimes you’re just craving a different combination of flavors. If you want to adjust this recipe to put your own spin on it, try some of these variations:

  • Use other fruit. Use any canned fruit or pie filling in place of the canned peaches to switch up the flavor.
  • Swap out the cake flavor. Don’t have yellow cake in your pantry? Try using a spice cake, chocolate cake, or white cake instead of a yellow boxed cake.
  • Adjust the spices. Not everyone is a fan of cinnamon or nutmeg. Adjust or omit these to taste. You can even use pumpkin pie spice or apple pie spice if you have some leftover from the holidays!

What To Eat With It

This Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix recipe is absolutely delicious when enjoyed the way it is written, but it can be taken to the next level when enjoyed with the following additions:

  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Caramel Syrup
  • Iced Tea

Storage And Freezing

This Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix can last for two days when left at room temperature. Because it has a high moisture content, it is best stored in the refrigerator. When stored covered or in an airtight container, you can enjoy it for up to 5 days.

When you’re ready to enjoy it, place a portion in the microwave for 15 seconds to reheat it before eating.

If you want to freeze this cobbler, cook it according to the instructions listed below. Once it has cooled, place portions in a freezer-safe container and freeze it for up to 6 months. Defrost the frozen peach cobbler in the refrigerator overnight before heating and eating.
