Ingredients To Grab

When making Hawaiian roll pizza sliders, each ingredient contributes to creating a delightful, mini pizza-like experience with a unique twist:

  • Hawaiian Rolls– These sweet, soft rolls are used as the base and top of the sliders, providing a slightly sweet contrast to the savory toppings. They hold the ingredients together and get a bit crispy on the edges when baked.
  • Pepperoni– Acts as the classic pizza meat topping, bringing a spicy and slightly smoky flavor to the sliders, enhancing the overall pizza experience.
  • Mozzarella Cheese– Melts over the other ingredients, providing the gooey, stretchy texture associated with pizza. Its mild, creamy flavor complements the tanginess of the pizza sauce and the spice of the pepperoni.
  • Parmesan Cheese– Adds a nutty, salty flavor when sprinkled on top of the sliders. It enhances the overall taste and adds a slightly crispy texture to the top when baked.
  • Italian Seasoning– This blend of dried herbs typically includes oregano, thyme, basil, and rosemary. It infuses the sliders with classic Italian flavors, complementing the pizza sauce and cheeses.
  • Minced Garlic– Enhances the savory notes and gives depth to the overall flavor profile, especially when mixed with butter and brushed over the rolls.
  • Unsalted Butter– Used to brush the tops of the Hawaiian rolls, it helps to brown and crisp the surface while adding a rich, buttery flavor.
  • Pizza Sauce– It provides moisture and a tangy tomato flavor that ties all the components together into a cohesive pizza-like experience.

How To Make Pizza Sliders

Hands showing cuts made in the top of Hawaiian rolls

Slice the tops of the Hawaiian rolls. Separate the Hawaiian rolls into individual portions and place them into a baking dish. Slice each Hawaiian roll 2/3 of the way down vertically.

Stuff the rolls with mozzarella cheese. Take a small amount of shredded mozzarella cheese and stuff it into each small pocket that you made in the Hawaiian rolls.

Chop and add the pepperoni pieces to the Hawaiian rolls. Make stacks of pepperoni and cut the pepperoni into 4 small pieces. Use your fingers to separate the stacked and chopped pepperoni. Place the chopped pepperoni in the same pockets that you stuffed the mozzarella cheese into.

Add more mozzarella cheese. Once the Hawaiian rolls have been filled with the pepperoni, add another layer of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Melt the butter and add seasoning. Melt the butter in a small bowl in the microwave. Stir in the minced garlic and Italian seasoning. Use a small basting brush to coat the top of the stuffed Pizza Sliders with the melted butter mixture.

Tips And Tricks

Want to make sure this recipe turns out ultra simple and perfect every time? Check out some of the following tips and tricks:

  • Slice horizontally. If you have mobility issues or want to get these in the oven even quicker, cut the Hawaiian rolls horizontally to create pepperoni pizza sandwiches instead.
  • Use pre-minced garlic. Save the extra step of peeling and mincing garlic by using the pre-minced version. The flavor is slightly intense, so don’t be afraid to be generous when adding it to the melted butter mixture.
  • Shred your own cheese. Pre-shredded cheese is incredibly convenient, but it is covered in a thin coating to prevent it from sticking together in the bag. For a better cheese pull, consider shredding your own mozzarella to add to the pizza sliders.
  • Make ahead. If you know you’re going to have an extra busy dinner time, consider preparing the sliders ahead of time. Cover the pan of uncooked stuffed pizza rolls and place them in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to bake them, coat them with the butter and garlic mixture and bake according to the directions listed below.

Variations To Try

Love these Pizza Sliders but want to switch things up to find a new favorite flavor combination? Try some of these variations:

  • Swap out the protein. Instead of using pepperoni, consider using precooked Italian sausage, salami, ham, or bacon for a tasty twist.
  • Try a different dipping sauce. If pizza sauce isn’t your favorite, consider dipping these in Alfredo sauce, ranch dressing, or a creamy garlic parmesan sauce.
  • Change up the butter sauce. Instead of basting these bites in butter and garlic, consider creating a sauce that uses melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and poppyseed.

Storage And Reheating

As I mentioned earlier, these Pizza Sliders can be made ahead of time if you want to prep them ahead of time. Assemble the sliders (except for the melted butter and seasoning blend), cover the dish, and refrigerate until you’re ready to bake them. When it’s time to bake, just baste with the butter blend and bake!

If you happen to have leftovers (I bet you won’t!) just allow the pizza bites to cool to room temperature. Cover the baking dish and place it in the refrigerator. They should last for 3-4 days without losing significant flavor or texture.

To reheat them, place them back in the oven or the air fryer at 300F for 10-15 minutes or until they are warmed through. Alternatively, you can pop them in the microwave for 45 seconds for a quick snack.

Can You Freeze Them?

Yes, you can freeze these Pizza Sliders! Remove them from the baking dish and wrap them in aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Place the wrapped sliders inside of a freezer-safe bag. Store them in the freezer for 2-3 months.

When you’re ready to enjoy these Hawaiian Roll Sliders, allow them to defrost in the refrigerator overnight. Place them in the oven and bake them at 350F for 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melty and they are warmed through.
